Gifts for Nurses

Thursday, November 26, 2009

102243-bling-retractable.jpgThe holiday season is upon us.  It is a time to remember special friends and coworkers with gifts to show our appreciation and friendship.

One very important group of people to remember are the ones who devote their lives to professional healthcare.  I have often pondered on what I could give to my coworkers in the hospital where I work that would demonstrate my appreciation for them without going deeply into debt!  I have discovered there are any number of small gift items that say “Thank you” to a nurse or other healthcare professional.  There are lots of nurses accessories they can use in their work that will remind them of me on a daily basis.

Nurses generally are required to display their ID badges–particularly if they work in a hospital setting.  There are different styles of badge holders including cute Christmas themes, Cancer Awareness themes, and Heart Awareness themes.  They may be plain solid colors, cute designs, or have just a little “bling” added as a fashion statement.

Nurses also use lanyards to display their ID badges.  These also come in various designs.  You can get whimsical, solid colors, or ones that display awareness to specific illnesses.  There are numerous Christmas and winter themes that will brighten the days of both the nurses and the patients.

While these badge holders are simple and inexpensive, they convey the message.  Keep these in mind as you check off your holiday gift list.

Desirable Characteristics of Medical Footwear

shoes discount nursing

When lives are hanging in the balance, fashion becomes a distant afterthought. That reality helps to explain why doctors and nurses think about function and comfort when shopping for work shoes. If you’ve ever seen people wearing Crocs – those shoes that might look atrocious but are simple to slip on and off, you’ll get the right idea. Working in the medical field means making quick, snappy decisions such as putting on one’s shoes without delay.

In addition to comfort and function, good shoes discount nursing should feature a simplistic structure that makes them easy to clean. Although operating rooms are sterile environments, there are parts of the hospital where spills and messes are the norm. Medical professionals with fancy footwear soon learn why so many of their co-workers choose to swallow their pride during office hours by slipping on some casual shoes.

Versatility and Prevalence of Scrubs

Versatility and Prevalence of Scrubs

It’s interesting to note that many of the people who perform the most critical jobs – saving lives and helping to care for the sick – wear some of the most casual work clothes. This is no accident. By their very design, scrubs are meant to be slipped on in a matter of seconds so that doctors and nurses can go about their work without dealing with restricting clothes.

The typical set of nursing scrubs includes some pull-on pants with an elastic or drawstring waist, a loose v-neck short-sleeve shirt and some casual slip-on shoes. This ensemble is not limited to emergency rooms, however. Dental hygienists and veterinary assistants began to take their fashion cues from the straightforward human medical industry some years ago. As a result, scrubs are now prevalent in most health care fields.

The Perfect Shoes for a Long Shift

The Perfect Shoes for a Long Shift

If you’ve never had a job where you’ve had to be on your feet all day, it’s hard to gauge how difficult that actually is. It’s extremely tiring on a body having to walk all day long, and when you’re already mentally drained from your job, this physical exhaustion can really compound the problem. This is true of a profession like waitressing, but it’s also particularly true for nurses. Nurses often work notoriously long shifts with few breaks, and this can be very tiring day in and day out.

This exhaustion can be somewhat alleviated, however, by wearing the correct shoes. Womens nursing shoes are designed with this in mind. If a nurse’s shoes are even somewhat tight or uncomfortable, they can make a long shift downright unbearable. To ensure you have the most comfortable shoes, make sure that the shoes offer plenty of cushion and support. Also make sure they don’t have any heels, as this can create great deals of pressure on the heels and ankles.

Toting Your Supplies to Work

Nurses Tote Bags

Did you ever wonder why people carry tote bags to work?  I have noticed even the men will often carry a backpack or tote when heading off to work.

The nursing profession is an excellent example of people with their totes.  A nurses tote bag is just another part of her professional wardrobe.  Nurses who work in a hospital setting are very often working a 12-hour shift.  That is a long day and they generally bring snacks or lunch along with a couple of bottles of water or soft drinks.  Many nurses must furnish their own supplies such as their stethoscopes, scissors, pens and other things and need a way to transport them between work and home.

A large tote bag proves to be very handy accessory when heading off for a long day’s work.
