Medical professionals wear uniforms in order to promote a clean, sterile environment. The importance of cleanliness in a medical setting is blatantly obvious; germs and bacteria can infect open wounds as well as people with weak immune systems, both of which are concentrated in hospitals. Hygiene is always of the utmost importance, but scrubbing for a surgical procedure is an especially rigorous process.
